Blessed with the pleasent climate all the year round Solan is the district headquarters in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The largest Municipal Council of Himachal Pradesh. It is known as Mashroom City of India because of the vast mashroom farming in the area. Solan is crowned as the City of Red Gold in reference to the Bulk production of [Tomato] in the area. The town is situated between Chandigarh and Shimla on Kalka Shimla national highway 22. The Kalka Shimla narrow guage heritage railway line, built by the Britishers passes through Solan. The place is named after the Hindu Goddess Shoolini Devi. Every year in the month of June a fair celebrated is held at famous Thodo Ground. According to the believes of mythologhy, Pandvas lived here during their exile. In 1815 Britishers won Bhagat State (now Solan) from the Gurkhas, Gurkha Fort is still stating tall on a mountain near to Soaln City and it is one of the popular historic tourist attraction of Solan. Solan is well know for its Brewery (5km) from town started in 1835 , know as famous Dyer Meakin Brewery now rename as Mohan Meakin Brewery.
The famous temple of Lord Shiva in jatoli Village (6km) Daulanji Monastery Kalaghat (15km) and a sprawling horticulture and forestry university (16km) and Mohan Shakti Heritage Park built on 50 acre of land (14km) is also situated around Solan City. Solan is also an industrial as well as educational hub of the Himachal Pradesh.
